Burning Man

Le festival Burning Man est une grande rencontre musicale et bariolée jusqu'à l'indescriptible qui a lieu chaque année dans le Nevada. Elle a lieu la dernière semaine d'août, le premier lundi de septembre étant férié aux Etats-Unis (Labor Day). En anglais, burning man veut dire homme qui brûle. L'évènement qui clôt la rencontre est le bûcher du géant de bois, image qui ramènerait à des rites païens si elle n'était commentée sous le registre religieux, quoique la spiritualité de ce sujet partagé reste à considérer.C'est Larry Harvey qui a initié en 1986 la crémation festive d'un mannequin géant sur la plage de Baker Beach, qui fait face au Golden Gate Park à San Francisco. Burning Man is an eight-day-long annual festival that takes place on the playa of the Black Rock Desert in Nevada, 90 miles (150 km) north-northeast of Reno, ending on the American Labor Day holiday in September. Though the specific location on the playa changes from year to year, the location has been quite constant in recent years. The temporary city is an experiment in community, radical self-expression, and radical self-reliance. The event takes its name from the ritual of burning a large wooden sculpture of a man on the sixth day.
